USES & Application
An important inhibitory neurotransmitter. The foods contain γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) at an amount that shows immediate effect of suppressing autonomic nerve activity related to blood pressure increase. Physiological effects
Gamma-aminobutyric acid is a strong neuroinhibitory amino acid with physiological effects of sedation, hypnosis, antico* vulsant and hypotensive. It is an inhibitory neurotransmitter that can inhibit animal activity and reduce energy consumption. GABA acts on the γ-aminobutyric acid receptor in animal cells. The γ-aminobutyric acid receptor is a chloride ion channel. The inhibitory or excitatory properties of γ-aminobutyric acid depend on the chloride ion concentration inside and outside the cell membrane. When the γ-aminobutyric acid receptor is activated, the chloride ion channel opens, which can increase the permeability of the cell membrane to chloride ions, allowing chloride ions to flow into nerve cells, causing cell membrane hyperpolarization, inhibiting the excitation of nerve cells, and thus reducing the amount of exercise in animals.

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a natural active ingredient that is widely distributed in animals and plants. Plants such as leguminous plants, ginseng plants, and Chinese herbal medicines all contain GABA in their seeds, rhizomes, and tissue fluids. In animals, GABA is almost exclusively found in nerve tissue, with the content in brain tissue being approximately 0.1 to 0.6 mg/g tissue. Immunological studies have shown that the area with the highest concentration is the substantia nigra in the brain.
