Brief Introduction
Vancomycin is a glycopeptide antibiotic. Its mechanism of action is to bind alanine at the terminal of the precursor peptide of the sensitive bacterial cell wall with high affinity, blocking the synthesis of the high-molecular peptidoglycan that constitutes the bacterial cell wall, resulting in cell wall damage and killing the bacteria. Vancomycin is used for severe infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria, especially for severe infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Enterococcus that are resistant to or have poor efficacy to other antibacterial drugs.
