Brief Introduction
Metformin is the first-line choice and full-course medication for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It mainly reduces fasting and postprandial hyperglycemia by increasing the sensitivity of peripheral tissues such as muscle and fat to insulin, enhancing the uptake and utilization of glucose, promoting anaerobic glycolysis of sugar, inhibiting hepatic gluconeogenesis, reducing hepatic glucose output, and suppressing the uptake of glucose by intestinal wall cells. In addition, metformin also has a weight loss effect and can inhibit the biosynthesis and storage of cholesterol, lower triglyceride and total cholesterol levels, improve the function of vascular endothelial cells, increase blood flow, and is particularly suitable for obese or overweight type 2 diabetic patients, preventing the occurrence and development of macrovascular complications of diabetes and reducing the incidence of cardiovascular events.
Function and application
Metformin is an oral hypoglycemic drug of the biguanide class. It can promote the uptake of glucose by adipose tissue, increase anaerobic glycolysis in muscle tissue, enhance the utilization of glucose, alleviate insulin resistance, reduce the absorption of glucose through the digestive tract, and lower blood sugar. It is used for adult non-insulin-dependent diabetes and partially dependent diabetes. For most juvenile diabetes and lean diabetes that do not respond to sulfonylurea treatment, the application of this product can also lower blood sugar. Clinically, it can be used in combination with sulfonylureas or insulin to enhance its hypoglycemic effect. Obese patients can also lose weight by using this product.
