LinezolidZyvox, U-100766, PNU-100766, linezolidone, linezolidin, morpholoxone Morinoxone is a new type of azolidone synthetic antibacterial drug developed and produced by Pharmacia&Upiohn, an American company (which has been acquired by Pfizer). The FDA of the United States approved the drug for marketing on April 18, 2000. This product is the first drug approved in the United States in 40 years for the treatment of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections. It was launched in China in September 2007 and is classified as a Class B drug under the medical insurance. Linezolid is active against most Gram-positive bacteria that cause diseases, including Streptococcus, vancomycin-resistant enterococcus (VRE), and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). It is used to treat skin infections and pneumonia, but it may also be used for other infections, such as drug-resistant tuberculosis.
