The antibiotic Amoxicillin, also known as amoxicillin or amoxicillin, is one of the most commonly used broad-spectrum β -lactam antibiotics in the penicillin class. It is a white powder with a half-life of approximately 61.3 minutes. It is stable under acidic conditions, with a gastrointestinal absorption rate of up to 90%. It has the characteristics of strong bactericidal effect and strong cell membrane penetration ability. It is also one of the semi-synthetic penicillins widely used in clinical practice at present. Its preparations include capsules, granules, tablets, injections, etc. It is now often used in combination with clavulanic acid and sulbactam to make injections.
Chemical properties
White crystalline powder. The melting point of the trihydrate is 195℃ (decomposition), and its solubility (mg/ml) is 4.0 for water, . The pH of the aqueous solution is approximately 4.7. It tastes slightly bitter.
Amoxicillin can be used as a broad-spectrum semi-synthetic penicillin. It is clinically used to treat tonsillitis, laryngitis, pneumonia, chronic bronchitis, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, suppurative pleurisy, liver and biliary system infections, sepsis, typhoid fever, dysentery, etc. This product is an antibacterial spectrum drug. Its function and application are similar to those of chlorpicillin. Its advantages include a low serum protein binding rate and a blood concentration more than twice that of ampicillin. Amoxicillin is a kind of drug with good therapeutic effect, safety and effectiveness. It was developed and manufactured by the Beecham Company of the United Kingdom in 1968.
