Di Methyl Formamide is an organic chemical compound. It is colorless liquid miscible with water and majority of organic liquids. It has highest boiling point. It is a very common solvent for chemical reactionsAs it’s name indicates, it is derivative of Formamide, the amide of Formic acid.

Applications the high solvent power of dimethylformamide can be ascribed to its molecular structure. DMF is an eminently suitable solvent for salts or compounds with a high molecular weight owing to the combined action of its small molecule, its high dielectric constant, its electron donor properties, and its ability to form complexes

It is primary use as a solvent with low evaporation rate, and also used in the production of acrylic fibers and plastics. It is also used as a solvent in peptide coupling for pharmaceuticals, in the development and production of pesticides, and in the manufacture of adhesives, synthetic leathers, fibers, films, and surface coatings. It is very effective at separating and suspending carbon nanotubes, and is recommended by the NIST for use in Near infrared spectroscopy of such.
