    Lower manufacturing cost. As shown in the figure, the main difference between the amount of lithium iron manganese phosphate and lithium iron phosphate materials is the change in the amount of manganese source required. Each kWh of lithium iron phosphate positive electrode requires 0.61kg of iron source, while each kWh of lithium iron manganese phosphate positive electrode requires 0.13kg of iron source + 0.38kg of manganese source. From the energy density, it can be determined that the amount of lithium iron phosphate positive electrode per kilowatt-hour can be reduced from the original 1.73Kg to 1.43Kg. The raw material cost of lithium iron phosphate (LiMn0.75Fe0.25PO4) is about 3,200 yuan/ton, and the raw material cost of lithium iron phosphate is about 4,900 yuan/ton, which reduces the cost of positive electrode materials by 30%, further opening up the application space of lithium iron phosphate.


    Technical challenges:

    ‌Manganese dissolution problem‌
    Mn³⁺ in high spin state is easy to dissolve, destroying the positive electrode structure and accelerating capacity decay. This phenomenon needs to be suppressed by technologies such as ion complex electrolyte.
    ‌Conductivity limitation‌
    Similar to LFP, LMFP has low intrinsic conductivity and needs to rely on process optimization such as nano-sizing and carbon coating.
    ‌Process complexity‌
    The manganese-iron ratio (x value) directly affects the performance, and the doping uniformity and solid solution synthesis conditions need to be precisely controlled.
