Aprepitant, also known by the brand names Emend, Cinvanti, and others, is a medication primarily used to prevent nausea and vomiting. It is commonly used in combination with other medications like ondansetron and dexamethasone.

Pharmacodynamics

Aprepitant belongs to a class of medications called Neurokinin-1 (NK1) receptor antagonists. It works by blocking the action of substance P, a natural substance in the brain and central nervous system that can trigger nausea and vomiting by binding to NK1 receptors. By blocking these receptors, aprepitant helps suppress the vomiting reflex.
