Allulose More Info

Allulose, also known as D-allulose and d-psicose, is a type of sugar naturally found in figs, raisins, and kiwis. It is approximately 70% as sweet as table sugar (sucrose) and provides just 0.4 calories per gram, making it a low-calorie sweetener that tastes similar to table sugar.

Mechanism of Action:

Allulose passes through the body unmetabolized. Roughly 70% of it gets absorbed into the bloodstream within one hour, but is then fully excreted through urine within 24 hours. The remaining 30% is transported to the large intestine, then excreted fully within 48 hours. Because allulose is not metabolized, has minimal calories, and does not impact dental ， it doesn’t impact blood sugar levels ， which may be helpful to people with diabetes. It is also low in calories and may encourage weight loss and reduce other health risks associated with table sugar.

Uses:

Allulose is used to reduce sugar while helping to maintain both taste and texture. It adds bulk to food products while enhancing mouthfeel and taste in beverages. It is used in various culinary applications, such as baking, coffee, tea, smoothies, and making mousse.

Side Effects:

Allulose is generally considered safe by the FDA. However, consuming high doses of allulose could lead to side effects like nausea and diarrhea. It is not metabolized, has minimal calories, and does not impact dental health.
