Efficacy and Clinical Evidence Multiple randomized controlled trials have established the efficacy of pimecrolimus in atopic dermatitis management. In a 5-year open-label study involving 2,418 infants, pimecrolimus demonstrated rapid onset of action with over 50% of patients achieving treatment success by week 3. After 5 years, more than 85% of patients achieved overall treatment success, with the pimecrolimus group requiring substantially fewer steroid days compared to the topical corticosteroid group (7 vs 178 days). The study concluded that long-term management with pimecrolimus was safe without any effect on the immune system.
