    **Product Overview**

Naphthenic acid is a complex mixture of cyclopentyl and cyclohexyl carboxylic acids naturally derived from petroleum distillation processes. This versatile industrial chemical features excellent solubility in organic solvents and minimal water solubility, making it ideal for metal salt synthesis and specialty chemical applications. Its unique molecular structure provides exceptional stability and reactivity, serving as a fundamental building block for producing various metal naphthenates with diverse industrial applications. The compound demonstrates consistent quality and performance characteristics, meeting the demanding requirements of global manufacturing industries.

    **Main Applications**

    **Metal Naphthenate Production**
Primary raw material for synthesizing valuable metal naphthenates including copper naphthenate (wood preservative), titanium naphthenate, and other specialty salts used across multiple industries. Aluminum naphthenate salts derived from this acid are particularly effective for thickening industrial greases, while calcium and barium naphthenates significantly improve water resistance and high-temperature stability in lubricant formulations.

    **Paint & Coating Industry**
Essential component in paint drying agents and surface coating formulations, where it accelerates curing processes and enhances film formation properties in alkyd resins and industrial coatings. Its ability to form stable complexes with metal ions makes it invaluable for developing high-performance architectural and automotive coatings with superior durability.

    **Wood Preservation & Anti-Corrosion**
Critical ingredient in wood preservative formulations, particularly for treating utility poles, railroad ties, and construction lumber exposed to harsh environmental conditions. Copper naphthenate solutions provide long-lasting protection against fungal decay and insect damage, making this acid indispensable for the timber treatment industry.

    **Lubricant & Grease Manufacturing**
Key raw material for producing high-performance lubricant additives and specialty greases. Metal naphthenate derivatives enhance thermal stability, prevent oxidation, and improve load-carrying capacity in industrial lubricants, transmission fluids, and greases operating under extreme conditions.

    **Petroleum Additives**
Used in formulating corrosion inhibitors, demulsifiers, and viscosity modifiers for crude oil and refined petroleum products. Its molecular structure enables effective protection against pipeline corrosion and equipment degradation in oilfield operations and refining processes.

    **Chemical Intermediate Production**
Valuable starting material for synthesizing esters, amides, and other derivatives used in plasticizers, surfactants, and specialty chemicals. High-carbon esters derived from naphthenic acid find applications in cosmetics, adhesives, and polymer processing aids.

    Air and Water Reactions:

    Insoluble in water.

    Reactive Group:

    Acids, Carboxylic

    Reactivity Profile:

NAPHTHENIC ACID is a carboxylic acid. Carboxylic acids donate hydrogen ions if a base is present to accept them. They react in this way with all bases, both organic (for example, the amines) and inorganic. Their reactions with bases, called "neutralizations", are accompanied by the evolution of substantial amounts of heat. Neutralization between an acid and a base produces water plus a salt. Carboxylic acids with six or fewer carbon atoms are freely or moderately soluble in water; those with more than six carbons are slightly soluble in water. Soluble carboxylic acid dissociate to an extent in water to yield hydrogen ions. The pH of solutions of carboxylic acids is therefore less than 7.0. Many insoluble carboxylic acids react rapidly with aqueous solutions containing a chemical base and dissolve as the neutralization generates a soluble salt. Carboxylic acids in aqueous solution and liquid or molten carboxylic acids can react with active metals to form gaseous hydrogen and a metal salt. Such reactions occur in principle for solid carboxylic acids as well, but are slow if the solid acid remains dry. Even "insoluble" carboxylic acids may absorb enough water from the air and dissolve sufficiently in it to corrode or dissolve iron, steel, and aluminum parts and containers. Carboxylic acids, like other acids, react with cyanide salts to generate gaseous hydrogen cyanide. The reaction is slower for dry, solid carboxylic acids. Insoluble carboxylic acids react with solutions of cyanides to cause the release of gaseous hydrogen cyanide. Flammable and/or toxic gases and heat are generated by the reaction of carboxylic acids with diazo compounds, dithiocarbamates, isocyanates, mercaptans, nitrides, and sulfides. Carboxylic acids, especially in aqueous solution, also react with sulfites, nitrites, thiosulfates (to give H2S and SO3), dithionites (SO2), to generate flammable and/or toxic gases and heat. Their reaction with carbonates and bicarbonates generates a harmless gas (carbon dioxide) but still heat. Like other organic compounds, carboxylic acids can be oxidized by strong oxidizing agents and reduced by strong reducing agents. These reactions generate heat. A wide variety of products is possible. Like other acids, carboxylic acids may initiate polymerization reactions; like other acids, they often catalyze (increase the rate of) chemical reactions.
