D(+)-Trehalose dihydrate is a non-reducing disaccharide, formed by the connection of two molecules of D-glucose through an α,α-1,1-glycosidic bond. The aqueous solution of this substance exhibits dextrorotation, and its stable dihydrate form is the common existence form of it in nature. It was initially extracted from the ergot fungus of rye, and later was found to be widely present in various organisms.
