1. Physical Properties
A fat-soluble organic acid that appears as white needle-like crystals or a crystalline powder; it is odorless but has a taste that is slightly bitter at first and then becomes pungent.
It is slightly soluble in cold water and can volatilize with water vapor; its solubility increases significantly in hot water, ethanol, diethyl ether, and acetone, and it is also soluble in turpentine.
2. Chemical Properties
(1) Acidic Reaction: The carboxyl group confers strong acidity; its aqueous solution has a pH as low as 2.4. It reacts with bases such as sodium hydroxide to form sodium salicylate—a key reaction in the industrial production of salicylates;
(2) Characteristic Color Reaction: The phenolic hydroxyl group reacts with ferric chloride in a neutral or weakly acidic environment to instantly form a characteristic violet-blue complex. This reaction is highly sensitive and serves as a specific qualitative test for salicylic acid;
(3) Thermal decomposition characteristics: At high temperatures (above approximately 200°C), it decomposes into phenol and carbon dioxide; therefore, it must be kept away from heat sources during storage and processing;
(4) Stability Characteristics: It is stable under dry conditions at room temperature, but exposure to light causes oxidation and gradual discoloration; it must be stored in a light-protected, sealed container;
(5) Reactivity in Derivatization: The hydrogen atoms on the benzene ring can be substituted by other groups, allowing for the derivation of hundreds of different organic compounds; it serves as an important synthetic intermediate in the pharmaceutical and dye industries.
3. Major Applications
(1) Medical and Skincare Fields: Salicylic acid at different concentrations can be used for acne treatment, exfoliation, and the improvement of acne and keratosis pilaris. High-concentration formulations can remove corns and calluses; it is also a key raw material for the synthesis of aspirin.
(2) Industrial Applications: As a key chemical intermediate, it is used in the production of dyes, resins, and rubber anti-scorching agents. It also serves as an indicator in acid-base titrations and as a color developer for metal ions.
(3) Other Uses: It is used in small quantities as a preservative in cosmetics and food products, and can also be used to synthesize methyl salicylate and other everyday fragrances.

The product strictly complies with the GB/T 2961-2014 national standard, accompanied by a complete set of MSDS, commodity inspection reports, and hazardous packaging certificates, and meets EU REACH import and export requirements. Standard packaging includes 200 kg galvanized closed-top steel drums and 1,000 L IBC containers. For large volumes, bulk transport via tank containers is available. Storing and transporting the product in a sealed, light-protected environment effectively delays oxidation and discoloration.
