Product Overview
Chromium(III) nitrate nonahydrate is a deep violet crystalline inorganic salt that is readily soluble in water, ethanol, and acetone. It is supplied at ≥99% purity for use in glass manufacturing, textile printing, and as a precursor for chromium-containing catalysts. The solution form (73-75%) is also available for industrial applications.

Synthetic Process
Chromium nitrate is produced by the reaction of chromium trioxide with nitric acid, followed by reduction with sucrose or other reducing agents. The resulting solution is filtered, concentrated, and crystallized to obtain the nonahydrate form.

Mechanism of Action
As a chromium(III) salt, it serves as a source of chromium ions for various applications. In glass and ceramics, it imparts color. In textile processing, it acts as a mordant. It is also used as a crosslinking agent in water-based adhesives to improve water resistance.
