Product Overview
Ferric chloride hexahydrate is a yellow-brown to orange-yellow crystalline inorganic salt supplied at ≥99% purity. It is highly soluble in water and widely used as a water treatment agent, etching agent for printed circuit boards, and as a reagent in analytical chemistry.

Synthetic Process
Ferric chloride hexahydrate is produced industrially by the reaction of iron with hydrochloric acid, or by the chlorination of ferrous chloride.

Mechanism of Action
As an iron(III) salt, it acts as a coagulant in water treatment by precipitating suspended particles. In etching, it oxidizes copper metal to copper chloride.
