Product Overview
Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) is a white crystalline inorganic salt supplied at 99-100.5% purity. It is widely used as a leavening agent in food, as an antacid in pharmaceuticals, and as a mild alkaline agent in various industrial applications.

Synthetic Process
Sodium bicarbonate is produced industrially by the Solvay process, in which carbon dioxide is passed through a solution of sodium chloride and ammonia, precipitating sodium bicarbonate.

Mechanism of Action
As a mild base, sodium bicarbonate neutralizes acids, releasing carbon dioxide gas. This property makes it useful as a leavening agent in baking and as an antacid.
