Product Detail

Potassium methoxide, also named potassium methylate, CAS No.865-33-8, molecular formula CH₃KO, is a highly reactive organic strong base. Our regular supply is 32% potassium methoxide dissolved in methanol, appearing as colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid. It is sensitive to moisture and easy to react with water, so it must be stored and applied under strictly anhydrous conditions. It has excellent catalytic activity and is widely recognized in fine chemical industry. Our potassium methoxide solution is produced under stable quality control system, batch indicators consistent for export shipment.

Potassium methoxide serves as a critical catalyst and condensation agent for various anhydrous organic synthesis reactions. Its largest application is transesterification catalyst for biodiesel manufacturing. Besides, it is widely used in pharmaceutical intermediates for producing sulfonamides, vitamin A and vitamin B series. It can also be used in pesticide synthesis, preparation of dimethyl formate, dimethyl carbonate, and as condensing agent for Claisen condensation, alkoxylation and ester exchange reactions. It is a preferred strong base reagent when sodium methoxide cannot meet reaction requirements.
