5-broMo-4-Methoxy-6-MethylpyriMidine Use and Manufacturing

Sodium methoxide (25 wtpercent solution in methanol, 1.83 mL, 16.0 mmol) was added to a solution of 5-bromo-4-chloro-6-methylpyrimidine (1.85 g, 8.92 mmol) in methanol (50 mL) and the reaction was stirred at ambient temperature for 1 hour. The reaction was quenched by the addition of pH 7 buffer. The majority of the methanol was removed under reduced pressure. The aqueous portion was diluted with water and was extracted with diethyl ether three times. The combined organic extracts were washed with brine, dried over Na2S04, filtered and concentrated to afford 5- bromo-4-methoxy-6-methylpyrimidine (1.43 g, 79percent).
