A mixture of 2-chloro-1 , 1-diethoxyethane (4.50 ml_, 30.0 mmol), 2-amino-4- bromobenzaldehyde (3.00 g, 15.0 mmol), and p-toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate (0.285 g, 1.500 mmol) in toluene (50 ml_) was heated at 110 °C for 3 hours using a Dean/Stark trap. The solvent was then evaporated and the residue partitioned between ethyl acetate and saturated aq NaHC0
