Description
Benzaldehyde is a colorless to pale yellow liquid that possesses a distinctive almond-like odor, which is quite characteristic and easily recognizable. This organic compound has the chemical formula C7H6O, and it is extensively utilized across various sectors. Specifically, benzaldehyde is widely used in the flavor industry, where it contributes to the creation of almond and other nut-like flavors in food products. Additionally, it plays a significant role in the fragrance industry, being a key ingredient in many perfumes and scented products, where its almond scent is highly valued. Beyond its use in the flavor and fragrance industries, benzaldehyde is also employed in the chemical industry for synthesizing other compounds. Its versatility and unique aroma make it an important substance in the manufacturing of a wide array of products.

Benzaldehyde appears as a clear colorless to yellow liquid with a bitter almond odor. Flash point near 145°F. More denser than water and insoluble in water. Hence sinks in water. Vapors are heavier than air. The primary hazard is to the environment. Immediate steps should be taken to limit spread to the environment. Easily penetrates the soil to contaminate groundwater and nearby waterways. Used in flavoring and perfume making.

Benzaldehyde Use and Manufacturing
It is produced by catalytic oxidation of toluene with molybdenum oxide or styrene by ozone oxidation. Derived from the reaction of benzyl chloride or dichlorotoluene with lime. Using thiourea as a reducing agent, the cinnamon oil (containing 80% of cinnamaldehyde) is ozonized, and about 62% of benzaldehyde can be obtained, which is a natural product.
Benzaldehyde is an important raw material for the medicine, dye, perfume and resin industries, and can also be used as a solvent, plasticizer, and low-temperature lubricant. In the flavor industry, it is mainly used to prepare food flavors, and a small amount is used in daily chemical flavors and tobacco flavors. Although it is widely used as a commercial food seasoning and industrial solvent, the main use of benzyl alcohol is to synthesize a variety of other compounds from pharmaceuticals to pl
