Description
Pink crystalline
2-Naphthalenecarboxaldehyde is used to prepare chalcone analogs with increased antileishmanial activities. It is also used to synthesize (aryl)(oxo)spiro[cyclopropane-1,3'-indole] derivatives with their activities as HIV-1 non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors.
2-naphthaldehyde is a naphthaldehyde that is naphthalene substituted by a formyl group at position 2. It has a role as a mouse metabolite.

2-Naphthalenecarboxaldehyde Use and Manufacturing
Pass dry hydrogen chloride into the mixture of anhydrous tin dichloride and anhydrous ether, add 2-naphthalenenitrile ether solution when it is saturated, and then pass hydrogen chloride to saturation to generate yellow aldimine and tin tetrachloride complex Compound. The complex is steam distilled, and the white solid product is filtered out from the distillate, which is the crude 2-naphthaldehyde. After distillation under reduced pressure, the pure product is obtained with a yield of about 70%.
