Description

Off-White to Pale Yellow Solid

A synthetic progestational hormone with actions similar to those of PROGESTERONE but functioning as a more potent inhibitor of ovulation. It has weak estrogenic and androgenic properties. The hormone has been used in treating amenorrhea, functional uterine bleeding, endometriosis, and for contraception.

Drug Function and Efficacy

It is a 19-demethyltestosterone derivative and an orally effective progestin with mild androgenic and estrogenic activity. It antagonizes the effects of androgens to prevent excessive stimulation of the endometrium and thickening caused by endometrial hyperplasia.
