Fumaryl chloride Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

Derived from the reaction of maleic anhydride and phthaloyl chloride in the presence of zinc chloride. Heat the maleic anhydride, industrial phthalic acid chloride and anhydrous zinc chloride at 130-135°C for 2 hours, taking care to avoid overheating. Then it is cooled to 90-95°C, and distillation is carried out quickly. The 62-64 (1.73kPa) fraction is collected as fumaryl chloride, and the yield is about 90%. In addition, from the outside, fumaryl chloride can also be prepared by reacting fumaric acid with phthaloyl chloride or thionyl chloride or phosphorus pentachloride.

Uses

Highly reactive organic intermediate.
