Description

(commercial product): Brown crystals. Mixture of two isomers. Endosulfan is a pesticide. It is a creamto brown-colored solid that may appear in the form of crystals or fl akes. It has a smell like turpentine, but does not burn. It does not occur naturally in the environment. Endosulfan is used to control insects on food and non-food crops and also as a wood preservative. Endosulfan Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

Endosulfan is prepared by heating and reacting hexachlorocyclopentadiene with 1, 4-butenediol, holding it for 10 hours, cooling, filtering, and washing to obtain endosulfan alcohol, then heating endosulfan alcohol and solvent to a certain temperature, and adding chlorinated dropwise Sulfoxide, after dropping, maintain the reaction for 1h, dehydrochlorination under reduced pressure, cooling, crystallization and filtration to obtain endosulfan. See reference [3] for details.
