Anatase (TiO2) Use and Manufacturing
The sulfuric acid method pulverizes ilmenite into a certain fineness of mineral powder, and then conducts acidolysis reaction with concentrated sulfuric acid. A massive solid phase is formed, and after leaching with water, a titanium solution (containing titanyl sulfate and ferrous sulfate and a large amount of impurities) is obtained. Impurities are removed by sedimentation. The ferrous sulfate is removed by freezing separation. Add seed crystals to hydrolyze titanyl sulfate to generate metatitanic acid (hydrated titanium dioxide), which is rinsed and calcined at 800-1000°C to obtain titanium dioxide, which can be directly used as a product after pulverization, and further post-processing can also be continued. The chlorination method crushes rutile or high-titanium slag raw materials into a certain particle size and mixes with coke, chlorinates in a fluidized bed at 900°C to generate titanium tetrachloride, after purification, adds a crystal form conversion agent, and carries out at about 1300°C Oxidation reaction produces titanium dioxide, and then continues to perform post-processing, filtered and washed with water, dried, and pulverized to obtain finished titanium dioxide. 3TiO2+4C+6C12→3TiCl4+2CO+2CO2TiCl4+O2→TiO2+2C12
Paint industry as white pigment and porcelain glaze. Used as a coating and filler in the paper industry to improve the printability and opacity of paper. In the smelting industry, it is used to make sponge titanium, ferro-titanium alloy, cemented carbide, etc. Used for making insulators, welding electrodes, enamel, etc. It can also be used in synthetic fibers, plastics, rubber, printing, printing and dyeing, cosmetic industry and as pharmaceutical fillers and food additives.
