Description
Malathion is a clear amber liquid. It is sparingly soluble in water, but soluble in a majority of organic solvents. The US EPA grouped malathion under GUP. It is used as an insecticide as well as an acaricide for the control of pests. Malathion is used for the control of sucking insects and chewing insects on fruits and vegetables, and is an effective insecticide for the control of several household pests, such as housefl ies, cockroaches, mosquitos, aphids, animal ectoparasites, and human head

Malathion Use and Manufacturing
Esterification produces maleic acid diethyl ester from maleic acid (or anhydride) and ethanol under sulfuric acid catalysis. Benzene is used as a solvent, and ternary azeotropic dehydration with benzene, ethanol, and water is used to facilitate the esterification reaction. Synthesize O, O-dimethyl dithiophosphoric acid (see the preparation method of Dimethoate) and add diethyl maleate to get malathion. The ratio of O, O-dimethyl thiophosphoric acid and diethyl maleate is 1:1.15, the reaction temperature is 55 ≤70℃, and the reaction time is about 7h.
Insecticide.
