Takasago L-menthol received USDA bio-priority label certification

ECHEMI 2020-04-23

On April 22, Takasago International Corporation announced that its L-menthol was certified as a 100% bio-based product by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The USDA-certified bio-priority label is a recognition of Takasago's commitment to providing products that benefit society's sustainable development. The USDA BioPriority Program aims to expand the development, procurement, and use of bio-based products.

Takasago started to switch to 100% bio-based L-menthol in 1954, and many other bio-based aromatic components were found in the process.

The USDA certified bio-based product label will show the bio-based content of the product, this part of the bio-based content comes from renewable resources, such as plants, animals, marine or forestry raw materials. The use of renewable bio-based materials can replace the demand for non-renewable petroleum-based chemicals. By replacing oil, bio-based products are playing an increasingly important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions that exacerbate global climate change.
