Hong Kong to Set up Fashion Hub in Sham Shui Po

China TexNet 2018-01-18

The Hong Kong Government will set up a design and fashion hub in Sham Shui Po to foster a new generation of designers and transform the area into a fashion landmark. The project, announced by secretary for commerce and economic development Edward Yau recently, will be located on a site that is being revitalised by the country's urban renewal authority.

Yau said the district has a long history in the trading of fabric and garments and is a popular destination for local fashion and design enthusiasts, according to a report on a Hong Kong Government portal.

The project will have 4,300 square meters of gross floor area in a five-story commercial building on Tung Chau Street and will be run by the Hong Kong Design Centre.

The hub, scheduled to come up by 2023, will provide new designers a space to refine their skills and creative abilities and also to showcase their design products and stage designs.

Facilities will include a design gallery and fashion showcase, fashion production workshops, working areas, stage and seminar spaces, a design library and a material library. An open space will also be made available where the public can go to look for fashion and items.
