FDA plans to expand use of Spirulina extract
According to the Federal Public, on November 10, 2022, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued Document 2022-24429, which amended the regulations on pigment additives, intending to expand the scope of use of the pigment additive Spirulina extract.
The expanded use includes alcoholic beverages with an alcohol content of less than 20 percent, non-alcoholic beverages, condiments and sauces, dips, dairy substitutes (labeled as non-lactate milk substitutes, non-milk frozen desserts and non-milk puddings), salad dressings and flavoring mixes (unheated).
The rule will take effect on December 13, 2022, and requests to object or hear must be filed by December 12, 2022.
