SunChemical Pigments Obtains ECO PASSPORT by OekoTex® Certification
On January 25, 2024, SunChemical completed the ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX® certification for selected series of pigments and obtained ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals) Level 3 certification, which is the highest level of certification awarded by the ZDHC Foundation. The organization is committed to protecting the planet by ensuring the phase-out of hazardous chemicals from the textile/apparel value chain.
The ECO PASSPORT certification tests harmful substances in textile and leather chemicals and assesses the ecological integrity of chemical manufacturers. The process includes CAS number screening, analysis of lab texts, self-assessment and on-site visit.
"SunChemical is the first pigment manufacturer in the world to receive ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX® and comply with ZDHC Level 3 standards, which means our chemical formulations will always comply with the latest ZDHC standards to provide safer products," said Dr. Christof Kujat, Global Head of Plastics, Color Materials, Industries at SunChemical, "This important certification process, which began in 2020, demonstrates SunChemical’s dedication to environmental progress and is the first of many future certifications designed to promote sustainability in our products and the markets we serve."
ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX® certification marks an important step for SunChemical in making its pigments sustainable for the plastics industry. The certification goes a long way towards meeting the requirements set by the EU Sustainable and Circular Textiles Strategy, further benefiting the entire value chain to enable the separate collection of textile waste by early 2025.
