Switzerland publishes general requirements for the production of mineral water in accordance with foreign technical regulations

On November 1, 2022, the Swiss Federal Office for Food Safety and Veterinary Medicine issued Announcement No. 301227 approving the production of mineral water in accordance with foreign technical regulations The announcement may be filed within 30 days of publication.


The main contents include: (1) mineral water produced in accordance with German regulations, legally sold in Germany, and can be imported into Switzerland or produced and placed on the market in Switzerland even if it does not comply with the applicable technical regulations in Switzerland; (2) Limit standards for chromium (VI), 1,4-dioxane, ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA), nitrite acid (NTA), perchlorate and tetrachloromethane in mineral water; (3) When producing mineral water in Switzerland, Swiss regulations on employee and animal welfare must be observed.
