Sugarcane extract prevents inflammation neurodegeneration
Australian food flavors and ingredients manufacturer The Product Maker (TPM) recently stated that the company's polyphenol-rich sugar cane extract can relieve oxidative stress, inflammation and neurodegeneration.
Researchers conducted preclinical studies on the company's patented ingredient Polynol and found that this sugarcane extract exhibited anti-inflammatory effects in human cell cultures.
The accumulation of reactive oxygen species leads to oxidative stress, which can easily lead to neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease, and other neurological disorders such as anxiety and depression.
Our brain contains a lot of polyvalent unsaturated fatty acids, which are prone to peroxidation, and there are not enough antioxidants to protect the brain. Polynol can disrupt the path and reshape the body's oxidative balance.
The researchers explained that Polynol’s anti-inflammatory properties may be due to its ability to inhibit the pro-inflammatory cytokine TNF-α and activate the Nrf2-ARE transduction pathway. Polynol can maintain the integrity of neuronal DNA, thereby preventing neuronal cells from oxidative stress. In addition, it can also prevent neurodegenerative diseases by regulating key proteins such as monoamine oxidase (MAO).
Dr. Barry Kitchen, head of TPM's Bioactives Business Unit, said: "This clinical discovery is a major breakthrough in the use of natural plant extracts to therapeutically intervene and regulate brain oxidative stress, inflammation and other neurological disorders."
