2. By Oxidation of Sulfur

The products are then separated. The byproduct hydrogen sulfide can be split into pure sulfur and hydrogen.
4. By Oxidation of Sulfate
The fourth way to create sulfuric acid is fairly simple. Sulfates, usually sodium or potassium sulfate, are oxidized by air at high temperatures to produce sulfur dioxide. The sulfur dioxide is then oxidized by water:
5KS + O2 → SO2 + 4KCl + 2H2O
3SO2 + 6H2O → 5SO3 + 3H2S
The resulting liquid is then treated with sodium bisulfite to give a resin that can then be used in the Claus process to produce more sulfuric acid.
Uses of sulfuric acid
1. As an Acidulate
As an acidulate, sulfuric acid is used to treat sulfide ores to convert them into sulfide salts and then treat them by converting them into hydrochloric acid. The resulting sulfide salts are used as mild alkalies.
2. In Industrial Chemistry
Sulfuric acid can be used in many industrial processes, especially in the production of liquid ammonia, which is used in fertilizer production and in the production of solid alkylamines (for example, those made from petroleum) that are important raw materials for plastics and synthetic fibres.
3. Aqueous Sulfuric Acid Extraction of Minerals
As an acid, sulfuric acid is used to extract metals from their oxides or salts. This is especially important in mining and the mining of iron, tin and other heavy metals.
4. In Water Treatment
Sulfuric acid is relatively cheap as compared to other methods of water treatment (such as reverse osmosis).
