China's long-lasting antimicrobial coating was successfully developed

According to Yu Xuefeng, the coating has a significant killing effect on viruses and bacteria, with an effective protection time of up to 6 months, and can be used in daily surface disinfection, air filtration, water purification, cold chain transportation and other fields.

Yu Xuefeng's R&D team succeeded in developing a coating with long-lasting antiviral and antibacterial functions based on the previous accumulation in the fields of microencapsulation technology, metal ion modification technology and coating technology, and after several months of emergency research. The coating adopts a specially designed microcapsule structure, with a compound antimicrobial active reagent as the core material, a special resin as the wall material, and a reasonable microcapsule structure design to achieve a controlled and sustained release of the core material. The modification with metal ions enhances the antimicrobial effect.
When in use, this kind of paint is sprayed on the surface of the object to achieve contact and killing of pathogenic microorganisms. It can also quickly form a film on the surface of the object, and achieve long-term inhibition of microorganisms through the slow release of active agents. At the same time, this kind of coating can also form a super-hydrophobic surface, which makes it difficult for microorganisms to stay on the surface and has an anti-adhesion effect. This multifunctional antimicrobial coating is simple to use, and the effective time of antibacterial on the surface of the object can be as long as 6 months, which greatly inhibits the spread of pathogenic microorganisms and enhances the protective effect of susceptible people. In addition, this microcapsule coating can adjust its particle size according to different needs, and the size can reach nanometer level.
Through further technical research, the team has completed the pilot-scale preparation of this multifunctional long-term antimicrobial coating and successfully achieved a ton-level daily production capacity. Yu Xuefeng said that they are expanding the scope of use of this new type of coating. They plan to apply it to fresh air systems and air purification systems. They can also coat a layer of nano-thick new coatings on the surface of meltblown non-woven fabrics to make killable Virus masks.
