U.S. waives $91.1 million tariff on EU essential oils

ECHEMI 2020-08-24

The American Association of Fragrance and Fragrance Creators announced that, with the efforts of the association, the United States has decided to abandon the US$91.1 million tariff on imported essential oils from the European Union, thereby saving costs for American manufacturers and benefiting consumers.

On August 12, the United States Trade Representative released the EU Section 301 Boeing/Airbus Investigation Tariff List (revised version), which does not contain essential oils. Prior to this, the Fragrance Creators Association (Fragrance Creators Association) proposed on July 26 the exemption of essential oil tariffs and communicated directly with the Office of the Trade Representative and the Congressional Fragrance and Fragrance Core Group. In the end, the United States decided to abolish the additional tariff of $91.1 million on EU imports of essential oils.

Since 2019, the United States has been planning to impose tariffs on EU essential oils, but under the lobbying of the Association of Fragrance and Fragrance Creators, the plan has been cancelled three times.
