Chemical production in seven regions of the United States has increased!
In July, of the 28 specialty chemicals sub-sectors in the United States, the market capacity of 3 sub-sectors rebounded year-on-year, including flavors and fragrances and cosmetic additives. In addition, the production of chemicals in seven regions of the country all increased in July.
The American Chemistry Council recently released a report on the market capacity and chemical production of specialty chemicals in the United States. With the gradual recovery of the economy, the market capacity of 3 of the 28 specialty chemicals sub-sectors has rebounded year-on-year. The production of chemicals in 7 regions all increased.
Data show that in July, the volume of the US specialty chemicals market rebounded by 1.9% from the previous month, down from the 4.6% increase in June, but it was still much higher than the record decline of 0.1% in May and 12.4 in April.
On a month-on-month basis, of the 28 specialty chemicals sub-sectors that the American Chemistry Council is concerned about, the market capacity of 25 industries expanded in July, an increase from 24 in June. For the rest, the market capacity of flame retardants remains unchanged, the papermaking additives shrink by 1.2%, and the market capacity of plastic composites also slightly shrinks by 0.6%. In April this year, the market capacity of 28 sub-sectors had all shrunk.
On a year-on-year basis, in July, the overall capacity of the US specialty chemicals market shrank by 9.1%, an increase from the 11.7% drop in June. Its capacity is equivalent to 6.88 billion pounds (contract 3.12 million tons), which is 101.0% of the 2012 average. There were only three sub-sectors with market capacity expansion year-on-year, including cosmetic additives, electronic chemicals, and flavors and fragrances, with growth rates of 0.5%, 7.4%, and 1.0% respectively.
In addition, according to another report issued by the American Chemistry Council, in July, the regional index of chemical production in the United States rose by 0.8%, up from 1.6% in June and 2.0% in May. In July, chemical production in seven regions of the country increased month-on-month, with the Gulf Coast, Midwest, and Ohio Valley having the largest increases.
