South Korea announced its first precision inspection program for imported livestock products in 2023
On December 30, 2022, the Ministry of Food and Drug Affairs (MFDS) of South Korea released the first precision inspection project for imported livestock products in 2023, involving mainly ice fruits, edible oil fats, special foods, processed meat, egg processing products, and oils products, etc. Precision inspection items mainly include: (1) ice cream (5 types): milk fat, bacterial number (except lactic acid bacteria products and fermented milk products), coliform, lactic acid bacteria number (only lactic acid bacteria containing products), Listeria monas; (2) Edible tallow (8 kinds): specific gravity, refractive index, moisture, non-saponifiables, acid value, saponification, iodine value, antioxidant; (3) Infant formula (46 types): 46 kinds of calories, water (except liquid products), crude protein, crude fat, linolenic acid, A-linolenic acid, ratio of linolenic acid to A-linolenic acid, carbohydrates, oily content, vitamin A, etc.; (4) Ham. Nitrite, tar coloring, preservatives, bacterial count (sterilized products only), E. coli (raw ham only), coliform bacteria (sterilized products only), salmonella (sterilized products only or products for direct consumption), Listeria monas (sterilized products or products directly consumed only), Staphylococcus aureus (sterilized products or products directly consumed only); (5) Heavy cream fermentation oil (7 kinds): fat-free milk solids, milk fat, lactic acid bacteria number or yeast number, coliform, salmonella, Listeria monas, Staphylococcus aureus; (6) Meat and processed meat products (14 types of ham, etc.), including ham (ham, lunch meat, raw ham), sausage lipids (sausages, mixed sausages, fermented sausages), bacon, meat extraction and processing products, dry storage meat, seasoned meat (seasoned meat, natural packaging, crushed processed meat products, ribs processed products), meat simple cooking sets, detection of amoxicillin and other 139 kinds of animal residues. Depending on the breed of cattle, pigs, and chicken, the number of inspection items varies. The notice of precision inspection items will be implemented from January 1, 2023.
