BASF will close two glufosinate plants

Recently, BASF announced that it will close its base in Muskegon, Michigan, and one of its three production plants in Knapsack, Germany. These two places produce the non-selective herbicide glufosinate (GA) and its intermediates. It is expected that the closure will be completed by 2022 at the latest. In total, the decision will affect approximately 100 employees. In the future, glufosinate production will be concentrated in the remaining factories and bases in Germany, the United States and Canada.

Vincent Gros, President of BASF's Agricultural Solutions Division, said that this move is a long-term move to further develop the glufosinate herbicide business and will help strengthen BASF's competitive position in the field of non-selective herbicides and better serve their customers. . They will remain committed to the production of glufosinate, as shown by BASF’s recent announcement of the acquisition of Glu-LTM technology from AgriMetis LLC.
