Canada reassessment of avermectin and its end-use products

foodmate 2023-03-01

On February 28, 2023, Health Canada released consultation document PRVD2023-01, in which the Pest Management Authority (PMRA) reevaluated Abamectin and its end-use products, proposing to eliminate the use of abamectin in greenhouse ornamental flowers.

It is understood that abamectin is an acaricide/insecticide registered for use in a wide range of outdoor field-grown fruit and vegetable crops, outdoor ornamentals, greenhouse vegetables and greenhouse ornamentals to control or suppress a variety of agricultural pests such as mites, leaf bees, moths, thrips, pied burners, psyllids, aphids and certain beetles. It is also registered for use in commercial and domestic indoor and/or outdoor buildings to control cockroaches and ants.

The registration is open for public comment from February 28, 2023 to May 29, 2023.
