Guangdong petrochemical refining and chemical integration project fully put into operation
On the afternoon of February 27, with the world's largest single set of 800,000 tons/year styrene plant successfully put into operation, PetroChina Guangdong Petrochemical Refining and Chemical Integration Project entered the stage of full production.
Guangdong Petrochemical Refining and Chemical Integration Project covers an area of 920 hectares, equivalent to the size of 45 bird's nests, with an annual processing capacity of 20 million tons of crude oil, 1.2 million tons of ethylene products, and 2.6 million tons of p-xylene.

As a world-class "refining giant", more than 40,000 people fought on site during the peak construction period of Guangdong Petrochemical's refining and chemical integration project, sharing more than 600,000 design drawings, more than 10,000 sets of process equipment, and 4.11 million cubic meters Meters of concrete, 270,000 tons of steel structure, and 3,377 kilometers of process pipelines... According to calculations, the concrete used in the project can be used to pour 22 bird's nests, the steel structure can be used to build 41 water cubes, and the pipeline can be laid from Guangzhou to Harbin.
The project construction has gone through more than 1,000 days and nights: in June 2019, the groundbreaking ceremony of the oil refining area was held, and the project construction entered a substantive stage; in April 2021, the "Asia's first crane" was successfully hoisted; in August 2022, 189 All the main project units were completed and completed; in February 2023, the 1.2 million tons/year ethylene plant was successfully commissioned for a test run, and the refining and chemical integration project process was opened.

In recent years, China's energy consumption has continued to grow, and China's dependence on foreign oil has also continued to increase. At the same time, the deterioration of the world's oil and gas resources has intensified, and the output of sour crude oil and high-sulfur crude oil has already exceeded 3/4 of the total crude oil output.
PetroChina stated that as the only petrochemical base at home and abroad that can process all low-quality heavy oil, Guangdong Petrochemical is adjacent to the Greater Bay Area, located in the hinterland of eastern Guangdong, and is in the highly competitive South China market, making full use of "two resources" and "two markets" , its commissioning has further optimized the country's integrated refining and chemical production capacity layout, strongly supported the rapid growth of my country's ethylene production capacity, alleviated to a certain extent the problem that my country's ethylene needs to be imported in large quantities and high-end chemical raw materials have long been dependent on imports, and promoted my country's import of crude oil channels and pattern of diversification.
The Guangdong Petrochemical Project is located in Jieyang City, Guangdong Province. It is listed as one of the four major oil and gas refining and chemical bases supported by the "14th Five-Year Plan" of Guangdong's manufacturing industry and the "No. 1 Project" of Jieyang City.
