Total energy consumption will increase by 2.9% in 2022
The National Bureau of Statistics issued the "Statistical Bulletin of the People's Republic of China on National Economic and Social Development in 2022" (hereinafter referred to as the "Gazette"). The Bulletin pointed out that according to preliminary calculations, the total annual energy consumption was 5.41 billion tons of standard coal, an increase of 2.9% over the previous year. Coal consumption rose 4.3 percent, crude oil consumption fell 3.1 percent, and natural gas consumption fell 1.2 percent.
Coal consumption accounted for 56.2% of total energy consumption, an increase of 0.3 percentage points over the previous year; natural gas, hydropower, nuclear power, wind power, solar power and other clean energy consumption accounted for 25.9% of total energy consumption, an increase of 0.4 percentage points. The comprehensive energy consumption per unit of calcium carbide in key energy-consuming industrial enterprises decreased by 1.6%, the comprehensive energy consumption per unit of synthetic ammonia decreased by 0.8%, and the standard coal consumption per kilowatt-hour of thermal power generation decreased by 0.2%. Carbon dioxide emissions per 10,000 yuan of GDP dropped by 0.8%.
Energy supply guarantee has achieved remarkable results. In 2022, crude oil production will be 204.72 million tons, rising to more than 200 million tons for the first time since 2016; natural gas production will increase by 6%, increasing production by more than 10 billion cubic meters for six consecutive years.
