foodmate 2023-03-23

On March 21, 2023, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration issued a list of unqualified food inspected at the border, showing that a batch of Korean kimchi sauce (special for pickled whole cabbage) illegally added sweeteners.

According to the notice, the manufacturer or exporter in South Korea is YANGPO FOODS CO.,LTD., while the importer in Taiwan is Hanwha International Co.,LTD., and the product is branded SEMPIO.

It is understood that the batch of kimchi paste detected saccharin sweetener 0.08g /kg. According to the "Scope of use and limit and standard of food additives", the products in this case are not listed as permitted food scope, and this case does not meet the provisions of Article 18 of the Food Safety and Hygiene Administration Law.

A total of 32.40 kilograms of substandard products were returned or destroyed.

Food Partner reminds domestic importers to pay close attention to the corresponding information to avoid importing substandard products.
