U.S. CF Industrial Holdings announced on March 20 that it will acquire the Waggaman ammonia plant in Louisiana, U.S., from Australia's Incitec Pivot Limited (IPL) for $1.675 billion.

Under the terms of the agreement, the companies will contribute approximately $425 million of the purchase price to a long-term ammonia supply agreement. Under the agreement, CF will supply up to 200,000 tonnes of ammonia per annum to IPL subsidiary Dyno Nobel.

It is reported that the Waggaman ammonia plant was put into operation in October 2016. The designed capacity of ammonia synthesis is 880,000 tons of ammonia per year. There are 38,500 tons of ammonia storage tanks on site, and ammonia is transported through pipelines, barges, trucks and railways.
