Polypropylene: Coal-to-PP Capacity Expansion Plan
Highlights
In China’s future PP industry, the market competition pattern was mainly embodied in the supply and demand pattern change. The capacity will increase obviously in the future, so China’s supply pattern will also change a lot.

China’s PP capacity will still expand rapidly from 2018. The newly added capacity is supposed to be 1.250kt/a in 2018. Of course, the unit at Ningxia Baofeng Energy Group Phase II will be put into operation at the end of 2018 at the soonest. In 2019, the newly added capacity will be mainly brought by coal-to-PP units, which will be about 1,650kt/a. The newly added PP capacity from 2020 to 2022 will be 2,400kt/a. However, there is uncertainty, so the commissioning date of a few above units may be delayed.
