Firmenich Completes REACH Registration for All of Its Chemical Substances
The Swiss flavour and fragrance company's palette of more than 500 ingredients has been certified as safe for humans and the environment
Firmenich has completed REACH registration for all of its ingredients, confirming they are safe for use in perfume and cosmetics.
Standing for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals, REACH requires chemical companies in the EU to provide proof that their substances are safe for human health and the environment; companies failing to demonstrate compliance by 31 May 2018 risk market exclusion or restrictions on production.
Jane Sinclair, General Counsel at Firmenich, said: “We successfully completed all REACH registration phases with over 500 ingredients registered, thanks to the continued efforts of our broad industry-leading team of experts.
“A key outcome of this process is how we are aligned with our customers and suppliers to pursue relentlessly all aspects related to human health and the environment, and we will keep pushing for more breakthroughs in these areas.”
Gilbert Ghostine, the company's CEO, added: “Building on our 123-year legacy of responsible business, it is an absolute priority for Firmenich to work with safe and sustainable ingredients, while offering transparency to our customers.
“I am very proud that we have demonstrated that our entire perfumery palette is fully REACH ready.”
The announcement follows the launch of Firmenich's EcoScent Compass tool, which measures fragrance sustainability as part of the company's ongoing efforts to increase ingredient transparency and appeal to eco-conscious consumers.
