BASF announces price increase of TDI products

ECHEMI 2021-01-28

Effective from February 15, 2021, or where the contract permits, BASF will increase the price of all Lupranate® TDI products by 0.11 USD/lb, and all Pluracol® polyol products by 0.14 USD/lb.

BASF is headquartered in Ludwigshafen and has more than 350 branches and companies in 39 countries. Among them, there are more than 60 domestic manufacturers in Germany, located in Ludwigshafen, Münster, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Mannheim, Würzburg, Cologne and other cities. The BASF Group headquarters and BASF AG in Ludwigshafen are like a "small city" covering an area of 7 square kilometers.

In recent years, BASF has focused on the development of petrochemical integration. With ethylene cracking as the leader, it has brought out a series of products. The product or by-product of the first project is the raw material of the second project. BASF now has 6 integrated bases, namely in Ludwigshafen and Antwerp in Europe, Freeport and Geismar in North America, and Kuantan and Nanjing in Asia. BASF is a listed joint-stock company with approximately 292,700 shareholders.

What is TDI?

TDI (toluene diisocyanate) is one of the commonly used polyisocyanates, and polyisocyanates are polyurethane (PU) materials and important basic raw materials. The commonly used TDI in the polyurethane industry is a mixture of 2,4-TDI and 2,6-TDI isomers, including 3 commonly used grades: TDI-80/20, TDI-100 and TDI-65/35. The previous number indicates the content of 2,4-TDI in the composition. For example, 80 in TDI-80/20 means that its composition is 80% of 2,4-TDI and 20% of 2,6-TDI; 100 in TDI-100 means that it is basically 2,4-TDI (about 98 %), there are few isomers of 2,6-TDI. Mainly used in the production of flexible polyurethane foam and polyurethane elastomer, coatings, adhesives, etc.
