Sumitomo chemical biopesticide Aveo(Bacillus amylolyticus) against soybean nematodes

2023-09-06

After extensive research investment, Sumitomo Chemical presented Aveo microbially derived nematocides at the 38th Congress of Nematology in Brazil (CBN 2023). During the meeting, the company introduced the unique feature of this product - it contains Sumitomo Chemical's exclusive strain of Bacillus amylolyticus PTA-4838. Manufacturers say Aveo can safely and efficiently promote crop growth, resulting in greater root volume and weight, higher biomass, and better initial growth. The product can be used on farms to treat soybean seeds and control major nematodes, which are harmful

Sumitomo Chemical’s seed treatment Agent manager Roger Sassaki explained that the product will meet the needs of farmers in the next planting season. Mato Grosso is the largest grain producing region in Brazil, where the need and use of nematode solutions is greatest. Aveo is part of the Seed Protection portfolio, which consists of sustainable solutions for treating seeds, controlling pests and diseases, and increasing food production.

In addition to Aveo nematocides, its seed protection portfolio includes Maestro FS insecticides, Inside FS insecticides, Apron fungicides, and soil fertility enhancing products such as MycoApply EndoFuse and MycoApply EndoMaxx. It can extend the time the soil is suitable for farming, improve soil health and increase sustainability.

″Sumitomo Chemical's other highlight at the nematology conference was to offer virtual reality technology with VR glasses and joysticks, which allows a close look at plant roots through digital control. "With this device, you can cut the root system, zoom in and out of the image, and see mycorrhiza and root details," Sassaki explains. This innovative and patented technology from Sumitomo Chemical will give visitors a surreal experience, allowing them to go inside the soil and observe the roots. The equipment will be used to train sales teams, technicians and researchers."

The theme of the Brazilian Nematology Congress 2023 is "Nematology for the Future: Sustainability and Technology". The Congress is supported by the Brazilian Nematode Society and organized by the Nematological Research Community of Mato Grosso (Gren-MT).
