Syngenta strengthens biologics and opens its first biological seed treatment service center

2023-10-20

Syngenta's Seedcare strengthens its focus on biologics by opening its first biologics Service Center and expanding its leadership in seed treatment.

Located at the Seedcare Institute in Mainthal, Germany, the service center is equipped with advanced technology to meet the growing demand of farmers in the EU region for bio-derived seed treatment solutions, providing customers with the best service and application support. Syngenta Seedcare currently operates 18 seed health institutes worldwide with more than 120 experts. The company plans to set up biologics service centers at more seed health institutes in the future.

。Biological seed treatment agents protect plants from pests, improve the ability of crops to absorb nutrients, and ensure healthy crop growth, especially at the beginning of life. It only takes a small amount of biologics to coat seeds to improve soil health and protect biodiversity and the environment. However, the introduction of living organisms brings new challenges to the development of seed treatment agents, and factors such as biocompatibility and seed viability need to be considered.

″Jonathan Brown, Head of Syngenta's Global Seed Health division, said: "Our leadership in bioinnovation and seed treatment is built on continually improving and adapting our ability to deliver services. This new Biologics Service center helps biologics succeed as seed solutions by sharing practical knowledge and resources. As the industry partner of choice, we look forward to working with our partners to deliver new solutions.”

Syngenta Seedcare offers an extensive portfolio of biological seed treatments, including the EPIVIO™ series of biostimulants, for healthy early crop growth; ATUVA™, which improves the nutrient use efficiency of leguminous crops; And NUELLO™ biofertilizers, which fix nitrogen and improve soil health.

The Biologics Service Center provides expertise to advance the application of new biological seed treatments. This includes competence in microbiology - from understanding the feasibility of formulation on seeds and in mixtures with other active ingredients, the ability to conduct tests on microbiological preparations, to expertise in handling sensitive biologics. The centre will also provide value-added services, including advice on water quality and formulation compatibility, determination of viability on seeds, guidance on storage, handling and cleaning, and professional training in biologics management.
