Syngenta has announced a partnership with AI company InstaDeep to accelerate research on seed traits

2024-06-25

Syngenta, a leading global agricultural technology company, has announced a partnership with AI enterprise InstaDeep to combine Syngenta's trait development expertise with InstaDeep's AI language modeling platform to accelerate the development of crop traits that can provide solutions for farmers.

Syngenta's collaboration with InstaDeep aims to improve the speed, precision and efficiency of seed research and development through artificial intelligence technology to drive rapid progress in crop traits. The collaboration uses Large language models (LLMs) to shorten research cycles, strengthen decision science and provide practical solutions for farmers. The initial phase of the collaboration will focus on AI-assisted trait design for corn and soybeans.

″Gu Sui Wu, Global Head of Seed Research at Syngenta, said: "We look forward to working with InstaDeep to apply AI's deep insights to accelerate our trait development process and bring innovative and effective solutions to agricultural challenges. The potential of AI to understand the language of DNA opens up new opportunities for us to quickly deliver the traits farmers need."

Karim Beguir, CEO and co-founder of InstaDeep, said: "This collaboration with Syngenta Seeds is an important milestone for InstaDeep and our genomic AI team as we help pioneer transformative agricultural science. We are excited about AI's potential to discover and deliver new traits, which will be critical to building more sustainable, resilient, and productive food systems in the future."

Syngenta's collaboration with InstaDeep is a prime example of the use of large language models in agriculture. By combining Syngenta's trait research and development capabilities with InstaDeep's AI technology, the two sides have jointly advanced crop trait research and development. This collaboration not only accelerates the discovery of new traits, but also leads to more efficient and precise solutions for the agricultural sector.

In this collaboration, InstaDeep's AgroNT1 model is being used to analyze and interpret the genetic information of agriculture-related crops and predict gene regulatory mechanisms to accelerate the discovery of new traits. This collaborative model shows how AI technology can improve the efficiency of crop breeding, while also providing an example for other companies in the agricultural sector to work together.
