The past year has been characterized by supply chain challenges, rising inflation, and the ongoing climate crisis. During this time, Fedima has prioritized defending the interests of its members in response to EU regulatory developments.

Fedima, the pan-European representative of manufacturers and suppliers of ingredients to the bakery, confectionery, and patisserie industries, was founded over 50 years ago in Italy and is now headquartered in Brussels. It serves as the umbrella organization for national associations in 13 EU countries, representing over 200 companies, more than 26,000 direct employees, and approximately €6.7 billion in annual turnover. Fedima plays a crucial role in EU policymaking concerning bakery products and their ingredients.

Fedima's objectives include strengthening the sector's voice, defending its interests, participating in discussions on key regulatory topics (such as the upcoming EU front-of-pack nutrition labeling system), and promoting sustainability across the value chain.

The past year has witnessed numerous challenges, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and its impact on food security. Fedima has collaborated with other stakeholders in the value chain to address these issues and express concerns to the European Commission and Member State experts.

Environmental and climate crises have remained a central focus, leading to the development of a Code of Conduct and a Fedima Grant to support local sustainability initiatives. Fedima is also a registered stakeholder for the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA).

In response to the growing interest in sustainability within the ingredients sector, Fedima has established a Grant that will be launched in early 2024. This initiative will award €20,000 every two years to a project demonstrating a positive impact on the local community, promoting a circular economy, sustainable packaging, or good nutrition.

The industry-wide Code of Conduct for Responsible Sourcing, created by Fedima, sets common standards for suppliers in the European bakery and patisserie industry. It covers compliance with laws and regulations, product quality and safety, ethical business practices, human rights, health and safety, environment, animal welfare, supply chain transparency, and continuous improvement.

The Baking Europe Ingredients Market Report delves into various aspects of the European bakery ingredients market, offering a breakdown by country and exploring topics such as packaging trends, product launches, marketing campaigns, product analysis, brand share, key players, and other market data.

Additionally, the report examines front-of-pack nutrition labeling systems and their industry implications, responsible sourcing with a renewed focus on deforestation, and the impact of sustainability on marketing messaging. It also provides tips for designing an effective communication and social media strategy.

This comprehensive report offers valuable insights and analysis to stakeholders in the bakery and patisserie industry and highlights the challenges and opportunities in the evolving landscape of European baking ingredients.
